The Butler Area School District has hired a new administrator as part of an ongoing reorganization under Superintendent Dr. Brian White.
At a special meeting Monday afternoon, the district’s school board unanimously approved the hiring of Julie Hopp as the district’s new Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development.
Hopp will be paid an annual salary of $125,000 and start on a date yet to be determined. In this new position, Hopp is expected to provide leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating instructional services, federal programs, and other research. The position will also be tasked with ensuring that district education objectives match up to state guidelines to allow for the best practices resulting in the highest possible levels of student achievement.
Hopp comes to Butler from the Chartiers Valley School District where she was the Director of Elementary Education and the Intermediate School Principal. Dr. White was the Superintendent at Chartiers Valley before he was hired at Butler in August.
The board also abolished the position of Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education which had been vacant since the resignation of Dr. Mary Wolf in February.
Finally, the board changed Dr. Brian Slamecka’s title from Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools to Assistant Superintendent of Schools. The consolidation or elimination of various administrative and support staff positions is expected to save the district over $100,000 in salary alone that had been budgeted during the current school year. Dr. White stated that although further restructuring is possible, no further changes are anticipated to central administration staffing.
