The Butler Area School District will not raise taxes above the level set by the state inflation index.
At a meeting Monday, the board voted to not increase the tax by more than 3.2 percent, which works out to be about 3 mils.
If they wanted to raise the tax by a greater amount, the board would have had to file an exception with the state and be approved before moving ahead. Although other districts in the area have received exceptions, Butler has never raised taxes above the inflation index.
The board will receive a preliminary budget report in May leading to a decision in June about the tax rate for next school year.
