The Butler Area school board approved changes to their transportation policy but expects to revisit more of what that policy states in the coming months.
The changes to the policy that were finalized Monday night dealt with how discipline on the bus is handled. In the past, different levels of punishment were mandated by specific policy language but the revision now gives more latitude for principals to determine what is appropriate based on the situation.
A parent addressed the board about a different part of the policy that states parents are responsible for kids as soon as they step off the bus, even if those students are young and no guardians are around. This part of the policy could be revised at a future meeting.
The district’s administrators plan on giving a presentation about the state of transportation in the district at their meeting next month.
