Five spare buses will continue to be used the transport Butler Area School District students through next week.
According to Superintendent Dr. Dale Lumley, the Butler School Board authorized him to enter into the agreement with Valley Lines while permanent replacements continue to be arranged.
A total of 21 buses older than 10 years were removed from service last Thursday (12/8) after the school board determined that they did not meet criteria agreed upon in the current contract. 16 of the buses were able to be replaced within the original five business day window given to the bus contractor.
Valley Lines has agreed to waive the daily rate on the substitute buses as long as they are needed until permanent, newer-model replacements are in place.
