The Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign got off to a bit of a late start in Butler County this year, but organizers are hopeful they’ll still be able to meet their goal.
Major Dan Hazeldine says Winter Storm Avery back in November delayed the start, but now, things are underway and volunteers seem to be making up some ground.
“We’ll see how it goes,” Hazeldine said in an interview with Butler Radio.
You’ll see bell ringers standing outside seven stores in Butler Township and at the Clearview Mall in Center Township. Ringers are also asking for donations at the Giant Eagle in Seven Fields.
This year’s goal is $98,000, which would all fund Salvation Army programs for the coming year. Many of those programs involved children, including after-school programs and activities.
“Several hundred kids come through our doors every month,” Major Valerie Hazeldine said in an interview. “We play sports with them; take them to the park. Provide them with a snack after school. Someone is even here to help them with homework.”
The Red Kettle Campaign will run through Christmas Eve. You can donate online with a credit card, where you have an option to donate directly to the Salvation Army in Butler.
Their building is located on West Cunningham Street.
