As part of the process to achieve a new transportation contract, the Butler Area School District has released figures received after a recent request for proposal.
A total of eight companies made bids on a five year contract offer with Butler. A.J. Myers was the lowest bidder at just over $27 million.
Current Butler transportation provider Valley Lines was the next lowest bid at nearly $29 million which is over $1.5 million more than the Myers bid. The annual rate of Butler’s current three-year contract with Valley is slightly less than the annual rate of the lowest bid received by Myers.
According to Superintendent Dr. Brian White, there is still a lot of work to do before making a recommendation for the board to act on.
“These are significant numbers to consider but the numbers alone are not the only reason you go through the process,” White said. “There are a lot of other considerations and so we’re beginning our due diligence at this points to check on a number of other aspects.”
Further discussion about transportation options is expected to continue in March.
