Butler Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers.
The program has been operational in the Butler area for 45 years and is based out of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in downtown Butler.
Volunteers can complete one of 12 delivery routes by themselves if they choose. Most often, a two-person team will go out together on deliveries.
There are about 70 sandwich meals and 120 hot meals prepared each day. Years ago, the food was kept hot with hot bricks. Now, hot packs are put in boiling water until delivery time. Those packs keep the food warm until it reaches its recipient.
Over 200 volunteers contribute their time. People of all ages are able to volunteer and individuals can offer as much time as they would like. They also have the option of working on a limited time schedule, as little as one day a week or month.
Deliveries are made every day of the year with the exception of Christmas and Thanksgiving.
