The mayor of Butler has not given up hope of finding a solution to the Penn Theater situation.
“There’s no hope of the Redevelopment Authority getting this paid off. Hopefully, there’s hope that somebody will come up with money to invest in it and then pay it off.”
Mayor Tom Donaldson is reacting to the response letter sent to the city by the Redevelopment Authority after city zoning officials sent a notice to abate to the authority last month about code violations in the Penn Theater.
The Redevelopment Authority informed the city that they do not have money to make the necessary repairs and they requested a meeting to discuss the situation.
“We’ll meet with them because we want to be 100% fair because my intent is not to demolish this building. However my true intent is to cause an awareness among people that if something isn’t done and accomplished soon, the building is going to deteriorate to the point that it absolutely has to be torn down.”
The mayor acknowledges that numerous people with great plans and intentions have discussed taking over the Penn in the past but it’s going to take “multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars” to take on this challenge.
