We now know more details about a police chase on Sunday that ended with the arrest of a Butler man.
Authorities say the vehicle 25-year-old Tyler Kern was operating struck a marked police car during the chase. The officer inside was not hurt.
According to Butler Township Police, the incident began as a retail theft from Walmart in Butler Commons on Sunday afternoon. Kern was the apparent getaway driver for two people allegedly attempting to steal a flatscreen television.
Kern was spotted by police driving a stolen vehicle and a chase began. Officers say he traveled “well past” 76 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone, at times crossing into oncoming traffic.
Kern eventually lost control of his car and officers were able to arrest him.
Police say the vehicle Kern was driving was a Honda CR-V that was reported stolen last week from the city’s Institute Hill neighborhood.
