It is the first day of school for Butler Area School District students but one local elementary school is not ready to go.
Summit Township Elementary students will start the school year out at Broad Street Elementary in the city of Butler as work continues to address water concerns out at Summit.
A Pennsylvania American Water line was connected up to the school earlier this month and water has been running through the school pipes since. The water engineering firm is still waiting for pH and chlorine levels to stabilize and then additional samples will be able to be taken and tested.
If lead and copper levels have returned to acceptable standards, no further work will be needed and classes at Summit will resume. If levels are still elevated, additional work to replace interior pipes could be necessary.
