LaRoche College junior forward Mackenzie O’Donnell, a Butler high school graduate, earned Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference second team All-Conference honors this week. O’Donnell became the 11th player in LaRoche school history to break the 1,000 career point barrier during the season (1,079). Another Butler and LaRoche grad, Casie Cygan, is the all-time leading scorer in LaRoche history.
Slippery Rock University men’s basketball senior forward Cornelius Brown, of Bridgeport, Conn., was named to first team All-Conference honors in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division when the All-PSAC teams were announced Wednesday.
Brown earns his first career postseason recognition after leading Slippery Rock throughout the 2015-16 season. He averaged nearly a double-double on the year at 15.9 points and 9.9 rebounds per game and started in all 28 games. Slippery Rock finished the season with a 15-13 overall record to mark the eighth consecutive year with a winning record and the eighth straight season with at least 15 wins.
The Pitt men’s basketball team lost to Virginia Tech 65-61 last night in the ACC. The Panthers record dropped to 20-9 overall. Pitt’s regular season ends Saturday at Georgia Tech.
The Pitt women’s basketball team won the first-ever ACC tournament game with a 82-72 victory over North Carolina last night. The #12-seeded Panthers meet Miami this morning at 11am in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Wagner ended the Robert Morris men’s season with a 59-50 win in the opening round of the Northeast Conference tournament.
