The Slippery Rock University women’s indoor track and field team claimed its fifth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship with a strong showing. Butler high school graduate Jasmine Bailey swept the titles in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, Ashley West, a Pine-Richland grad, won the high jump title and Sabrina Anderson of Warren claimed the 60-meter hurdle title all within a span of one hour to flip the meet back in The Rock’s favor.
Bailey was named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the meet on the women’s side after breaking her own PSAC Championship record in the 200m to win in 24.84 seconds for her second straight win in the event. She was even more impressive in the 400-meter final, winning by nearly two full seconds in a provisional time of 56.69 seconds. She then closed her day by anchoring Slippery Rock to a second place finish in the 4×400-meter relay after running the fastest split of all runners in the race. The title is the fifth for the program since 2007 and the second in the last three years. The Rock and Shippensburg have now combined to win every title on the women’s side since 2007. The Rock men’s team finished runner-up.
