The Butler Golden Tornado, the WPIAL AAA Section 3 champion, traveled to Norwin yesterday for their WPIAL Semi Final track & field meet. The girls defeated Norwin 90-60, Baldwin 99-51 and Franklin Regional 112-38. The Girl’s improve to 9-0 on the season and advance to the WPIAL AAA Championship M<eet on Monday, May 9 at Baldwin High School.
The Butler 3200 relay of Erin LeMay, Maggie Welty, Emma LeMay and Liz Simm set the tone for the meet by winning in a season best time of 9:43.26. Emily Horstman won the 100, 200 and ran on the 1st place 1600 relay along with Shana Hoy, Liz Simms and Alexis Leech. Odile Enslen won a key race in the 300 Hurdles with a stellar 47.13 while sophomore Maggie Welty won the 1600 and 3200. Lia Simms won the 800 and Alexis Leech won the 400 amd each was part of the winning 1600 relay.
The tandem of Jena Reinheimer and Alyssa Eyth went 1-2 in the shot put with personal records if 36-3 and and 35-4 respectively. Even more big points came from Lexi Hopper and Emily Sespico as both cleared 5-0 in high jump. And Taylor Weaver won the Pole vault at 10-0.
Also advancing to the WPIAL championships: In Triple-A: Seneca Valley with wins over Knoch, West Allegheny and Chartiers Valley. The Freeport girls in Double-A, with wins over California, Southmoreland and Mohawk.
The Seneca Valley Boys track team advanced to the Triple-A WPIAL Championships following victories Tuesday over Knoch, New Castle and Chartiers Valley.
The Freeport Boys advanced to the Double-A Championships with wins over Southmoreland and Riverside.
The Butler Boys Tennis team defeated Blackhawk 5-0 Tuesday.

Butler will host Montour today in the Preliminary Round of the WPIAL Team playoffs. The winner meets Upper St. Clair Thursday.
