–The Butler Girls Track & Field team won their third consecutive WPIAL Triple-A championship Monday with a sweep over three other teams. Butler defeated both Seneca Valley and North Allegheny by scores of 95-55 and edged Norwin 77-73 to clinch the title. The Butler Girls needed a win in the 4×400 relay, the meet’s final event, to clinch the win. The team of Chesna Tomko, Gabby Boden, Anna Baxter and Liz Simms did just that, with Simms bringing home the baton on the last lap for the victory.
Simms led the way for the Golden Tornado, with wins in the 400, 880 and was part of two relay wins. Baxter also won the 300 hurdles. Samantha Penrod won the Pole Vault. Paris Johnson won the Shot Put. Autumn Pettinato and Heidi Gross provided an early 1-2 sweep in the Javelin.
The Girls will compete in the WPIAL Individual Championships at Slippery Rock University May 16th, with an opportunity to reach the state finals.
