Last Saturday: the Butler girls indoor track and field team clinched the 2017 Tri State Track Coaches Association championship with another record-setting day at Edinboro University. Butler held off Hempfield for the overall title for the second year in a row. Alexis Leech set the Butler school record in the 400-meter run. Maggie Welty finished third in the mile run, but also set a new Butler school record, and the 3200-meter relay team of Maggie Welty, Liz Simms and Erin and Emma LeMay also set a new school record in winning their event.
Noah Beveridge had the top finish for the Butler boys with a 3rd in the mile run.
Knoch high school’s Jordan Geist had a shot put throw of more than 75 feet to set another state record, and tie for the third-longest indoor throw in history.
