We’re very familiar with the Butler Farm Show, as it continues over the next couple of days, but do you know how the event began?
Ken Metrick spoke to our radio station and talked about the very first event on the farm show grounds. In 1947, there was a plowing contest held.
“It went so well that men with some insight said ‘let’s do this again but let’s invite the public.’ Let’s invite some machinery dealers,” Metrick said. Farm Credit came the following year and handed out water.
We’ve come to expect many favorites each year to be on site…machinery row, the doughnut man, paddle boats, rides, vendors, animals, a family atmosphere and more.
The Butler Farm show is always four Mondays before Labor Day. It’s open through Saturday. Gates open at 8:30 a.m. daily with rides starting up at 1 p.m.
