The Butler Area School District has eliminated one out of the four options on the table as they continue to look at reconfiguring the district.
The option—known as Choice B—would have included two 5th and 6th grade middle schools, but that has now been ruled out.
The district will evaluate three remaining options.
Choice A – Keeping things how they are with a large amount of spending necessary to address Middle School needs.
Choice C – Putting fifth grade back in the elementary schools, moving 6-8 grades to a middle school (at the Intermediate), and 9-12 at the senior high school.
Choice D – Putting grades 5-8 in an intermediate school and 9-12 in a single high school.
A recent survey open to everyone in the community collected showed a majority in favor of choice C, with Choices A and D very closely matched.
A Committee of School Reorganization made up of community members will meet four times October and November to discuss options for reorganization.
