The former elections director for Butler County is speaking out after he was let go from the position about a month ago.
Aaron Sheasley spoke to our newsroom and said he was fired from the job with no reason given. He says it came “out of the blue” after he was asked to attend a meeting with the commissioners and solicitor outside of the government center.
“I got to the location, went inside and there were no commissioners, no one there from the county, and only an attorney,” Sheasley said. “The attorney said we were there to discuss my resignation. So, I was completely blindsided by that.”
Sheasley said he was told that he could have no contact with his staff. He says that the commissioners told the staff that he left voluntarily, a claim he vehemently denies.
“Based on teh feedback that was given to me is that they were told that I left voluntarily, which was absolutely not the case. So I’m a bit mystified by all of that. Of course, there was a lot of very upset people in the office that day and throughout the building,” Sheasley said.
Sheasley also expressed concern with the timing of the decision.
“I would never even consider leaving a position like this with a month to go before the elections,” Sheasley said.
A lawyer representing the county in labor issues said in a statement that “Sheasley knows the reasons for his employment separation, no one demanded he sign or agree to anything, and nothing about the process through which his service to the County ended was wrong.”
