Butler County isn’t in the direct path of the winter storm scheduled to blast the eastern seaboard this weekend but we could still see some effects.
PennDOT will be out in full force clearing our roadways and Highway Foreman Mark Mares is reminding us to exercise patience when it comes to your road getting cleared.
“Every state road doesn’t have its own truck to do just that road,” Mares said. “On average, one truck is responsible for clearing about 50 miles of road.”
His point, clearing the roads takes time but crews will be working as quickly as possible.
And, what if you come upon a PennDOT truck? Mares says stay a good distance back and don’t pass.
“Under no circumstances should you pass a plow truck,” Mares says. “First of all, in front of us is bad roads. It’s also illegal to do and you could get a ticket. Plus, the plows on the truck could cut a car in half.”
The no-passing rule goes for a two-lane, four-lane or even five-lane road like Route 8.
The National Weather Service predicts Butler County will see 1-3 inches of snow late Friday into Saturday…possibly even less in our northern corridors. The southern part of the state and into West Virginia can expect 6 to 10 inches. Washington, D.C. could see around 2 feet of snow.
