The Butler County Prison will make over $250,000 this year by housing inmates from Venango County.
Butler will be paid $60 per day per inmate. The agreement went into effect on Monday and so far, 24 inmates have been transferred to Butler. Warden Joe DeMore anticipates an average of between 30-40 inmates as the program continues. This is simply due to overcrowding at Venango’s facility.
DeMore said no extra staffing at the Butler Prison is necessary and the money will be straight revenue.
“We have the available bed space,” DeMore said.
Butler County has had previous agreements with other surrounding counties in the past but currently is only housing Butler County, state and federal inmates, and now Venango inmates.
