The Butler County Prison is adding more cameras.
The building on South Washington Street already has 390 cameras inside; 37 will be added. Some of the new cameras will be able to provide a 360 degree view of the jail cells.
The entire system will also be upgraded and switched over to digital, instead of analog.
Warden Joe DeMore called the upgrade “extensive.” It will cost just under $300,000 and will be paid for with money collected from the commissary, which is where inmates can order items from (including food, hygiene and games) while incarcerated.
