The Butler County District Attorney is shedding light on what criminal charges could stem from the investigation currently underway into the high levels of lead found in the drinking water at a local elementary school.
“If there’s somebody that knew there was lead in the water, that it was at a dangerous level, and allowed 250 children to be drink that water along with teachers and clerical staff, each child could be an endangering the welfare of a child, each adult could be reckless endangerment of another person,” Butler County District Attorney Rich Goldinger said.
Goldinger says the investigation into the water situation at Summit Township Elementary will take time. A state trooper at the Butler barracks has been assigned to the case.
Testing showed high levels of lead in the water at Summit Elementary last August, but parents weren’t notified until mid-January.
