Butler County could join forces with three surrounding counties and become the first in the state to share an emergency services dispatch system.
County Emergency Services Director Steve Bicehouse says Butler, Venango, Lawrence and Mercer would like to explore sharing a computer aided dispatch system, which is used to tell police and fire departments where to go when emergencies occur.
Bicehouse says sharing is system is beneficial because costs are divided and it ensures a back-up system in case one county’s dispatch center goes down.
The Butler County commissioners will vote on the matter next week.
