A local company has been approved by the Pennsylvania Game Commission for an energy development deal affecting state game lands in Indiana County.
On Monday, the Board of Game commissioners approved Amerikohl Mining to remove nearly 16,000 tons of Lower Kittanning coal under about 13 acres of state game lands in Burrell Township.
Amerikohl plans to develop a surface coal mining project on private land in between two different state game lands so they requested being able to extend that project onto the game lands to eliminate the potential for mine discharge.
Amerikohl Mining is headquartered on Sunset Drive in Butler.
