The director of Butler County Veterans Services John Cyprian says the mood on Memorial Day should be solemn and it’s different than that of Veterans Day.
“The Memorial Day is to be solemn, because we are honoring the dead,” Cyprian said in an interview with Butler Radio.
Memorial Day was created as a day to honor those who died while fighting in the armed forces. Veterans Day, in November, is a day to celebrate all veterans, no matter where or when they served.
There will be a parade in downtown Butler on Monday and several communities around the county will also host their own Memorial Day parades, including in Saxonburg, Harrisville and Chicora
“They all have their own community parades on Memorial Day,” Cyprian said. “Where Veterans Day is a mass celebration and all those communities will come into Butler to celebrate.”
