The wind is expected to cause problems throughout the day on Wednesday.
A Wind Advisory is in effect for Butler and the surrounding counties until 8 p.m. Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, sustained winds of 20-25 miles per hour are possible, with gusts as high as 50.
“Strong winds may blow down limbs, trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected,” according to the NWS advisory.
Local power crews and emergency workers started dealing with wind-related problems at 6:30 this morning. There have been numerous calls for downed trees, wires and poles in various locations throughout the county.
At one point Wednesday morning, Central Electric Cooperative was reporting more than 1,300 outages in Butler County. West Penn Power was reporting 2,200 outages as of 3:30 p.m.
Crews are working as quickly as possible to restore power but company websites estimate the outages could continue until around 11 p.m.
