There were several events held Monday in Butler in observance of Memorial Day.
Activities started at 9 a.m. at VA Butler Healthcare in Butler Township. Following a brief program there, officials moved to the city and laid wreaths in Doughboy Park and at the Korean and Vietnam memorials in Diamond Park.
The Memorial Day Parade started just after 10:30 a.m. in downtown Butler, starting at the Butler County Courthouse and traveling north on Main Street.
Following the parade, a Memorial Day Tribute was held at North Cemetery in Butler.
On Sunday, a program was held at the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora. The names of every veteran in Butler County who has passed away in the last year was read. There was also singing and a special dedication to the POWs and MIAs.
