A Butler County native has been seriously injured in a plane crash in Florida.
Chase Zinn, 23, was hurt Tuesday when a small, single-engine private plane crashed in an empty lot near Port Orange, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials say Zinn was piloting the plane and was one of two people inside. The passenger, a Florida man, was killed. Zinn remains in a Florida hospital. No one on the ground was injured.
Zinn, whose family owned the plane, was a flight instructor for Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the man who was killed was a student.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash.
According to Zinn’s Facebook page, he was a graduate of Slippery Rock High School. He worked at one time for Triangle Gasoline in Butler, which is owned by his father.
