Butler County continues to maintain the lowest unemployment rate in the seven-county region.
According to the latest numbers released by the Department of Labor and Industry, the county’s jobless rate was 5.3 percent in September. Allegheny County was at 5.5 percent, Westmoreland at 6.1 percent, Beaver at 6.4 percent, Washington at 6.5 percent, Armstrong at 6.1 percent and Fayette at 8.6 percent.
On average, the region’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate hit 6 percent in September, which is up one-tenth of a percentage point from the previous month.
The government defines unemployed people as those without jobs who are available to work and who make specific efforts to find employment.
