The Butler County Junior Livestock Sale will offer a wide variety of meat to local bidders Thursday.
“The livestock auction is open to anyone, a business or individual, who would like to fill their freezer or come support the kids, 4-H and FFA. They can purchase an animal to be processed at our local processors. It’s sold by the pound, other than the poultry and the rabbits, which are sold by the pen.”
Tammy Schultheis helps organize this event with the Butler County 4-H and FFA clubs. Registration for the event begins at 4 p.m. with a scholarship presentation at 5:30 p.m. and a new earlier start time this year of 6 p.m.
Over 250 different lots of home-grown, top-quality animals will be available including two that have proceeds donated to charity.
“We have two charity animals this year,” she said. “We have a charity hog raised by the junior livestock club and the proceeds from that will go to the Pine Valley Camp in Elwood City. The second one is a charity lamb by the premier livestock club and it is in memory of my father, Bob Leiker. They have chosen to honor him and our family has picked the VNA hospice.”
Funds raised by the majority of sales will help students raise money for higher education.
