The Butler County Coroner’s Office has released more information surrounding the demographics of the 74 overdose deaths in Butler County in 2016.
Over 75 percent of the fatal overdoses were to people between the ages of 25 and 44. There were no fatal overdoses to anyone under 17 years old and only a slim number between the ages of 18 and 24, according to the data.
According to the coroner’s office, the majority of overdose deaths in the county were to males (65 percent).
The highest number of fatal drug overdoses, 31, occurred in the area of the county with the zip code 16001, which includes Butler City, Butler Township and parts of Meridian. There were 8 overdoses in the 16002 area code (southern Butler County) and 6 overdoses in the northern Butler County 16057 area code.
The number of fatal drug overdoses in Butler County has grown dramatically over the last few years. There were 74 last year, compared to less than 10 in 2013.
