The Butler County Commissioners are still in the process of restructuring its executive staff after deciding to re-work the position of chief clerk.
Late last month, Chief Clerk Scott Andrejchak left his position. The commissioners have not shed specifics on why he left, but indicated during a meeting on Wednesday that the board was not completely satisfied with how he was handling all of his duties, including the financial aspects of the job.
The board has decided to split the duties of chief clerk among three current county employees. Current Human Resources Director Lori Altman will now have the title of chief clerk added to her current title, and will be paid a stipend of $3,000 per year in addition to her current salary. County Solicitor Mike English will be appointed as the right-to-know and compliance officer and be paid a stipend of $2,600. Current fiscal operating officer for the Human Services Department Ann Brown will now also oversee the county budget and will be paid a new salary.
The commissioners say the moves will ultimately save the county between $70,000 and $80,000 per year. All title, and stipend and salary, changes will be voted on at next week’s commissioners meeting.
Board chairman Leslie Osche said it’s not an unusual practice for Pennsylvania counties to split the duties of chief clerk.
Commissioner Kim Geyer agreed.
“It’s hard to find one person that can do both the financial, and administrative, aspects of the job,” Geyer said Wednesday. “The current position wasn’t working for us as a county.”
