Sidewalks are being repaired in downtown Butler with the goal of improving pedestrian access.
“The idea was to continue with physical improvements in the downtown area to encourage pedestrian activity and patronage of the local businesses,” David Farkas, Associate Director of Real Estate Programs for the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation, said. “We felt that adding sidewalks to create a safe and comfortable way for folks to access Main Street was an important part of that.”
The sidewalk replacement is currently taking place on East and West Vogeley streets.
There are two major parking areas on either side of Main Street in that location; the surface lot near East Vogeley and the parking garage off West Vogeley.
Funding for the project is arranged through grants with help from local business partners.
“The funds that we’re utilizing are grant funds that are available to us by way of our business sponsors of the project,” Farkas said. “Armstrong and Huntington Bank have given us lots of support.”
The project is expected to be finished within the next ten days.
