Butler City Council does not plan on raising taxes as they move forward with the process of approving the budget for 2025.
The total 2025 preliminary balanced general fund budget currently sits at nearly $10.9 million with a tax rate of 44 mils. An additional about $3 million in city money has been designated for the capital projects fund.
These figures are either identical or very close to last year’s figures. The budget also includes raises for police as outlined in collective bargaining agreements but negotiations are ongoing with other city employees including firefighters.
Councilman Don Shearer estimates that the city will collect about $643,000 in interest the rest of 2024 from the $92 million in proceeds from the BASA sale which will be used to help balance the 2025 budget.
The budget is now available to the public for 30 days before a vote for final approval sometime before the end of December.
