Butler City Police are looking for ways to make sure they have enough vehicles after an accident and continued mechanical difficulties.
According to a report given to Butler City Council by Police Chief Ron Brown during Thursday’s meeting, one police vehicle was totaled when it was involved in an accident on Wednesday morning near the intersection of South Main and Wayne streets. Another vehicle is out of commission with a blown engine that could cost $1,500 to repair. A third vehicle has been removed from service and is being stripped for parts.
Mayor Tom Donaldson said a detective car is now being used as a patrol car and detectives will be using Chief Brown’s car when necessary. Chief Brown will use his personal vehicle when necessary.
Council has approved the purchase of three police vehicles at a cost of over $105,000 in the 2018 budget but it is not yet known how quickly that might be able to happen.
