Butler City Police officers are using some new technology thanks to a grant.
The grant has funded a mobile digital fingerprint identification device and the service needed to operate it.
Officers can use the device to identify someone if they suspect the person has provided false identification, doesn’t have an ID on them, or can’t communicate.
Patrol officers are using the device in Butler.
The Butler City Police Department obtained the grant in cooperation with the Chiefs of Police Association, the Pennsylvania State Police, Data Works Plus and the Evans City Seven Fields Regional Police Department, who is also using the device thanks to grant money.
