The City of Butler is among the defendants named in a lawsuit filed by a Butler County Prison Inmate.
James Cogley of Butler alleges he was subjected to “an invasion of privacy and use of excessive force.” According to court records, Cogley was arrested in August 2017 and remains in the Butler County Prison. We’re working to learn more about what led to his arrest.
Cogley filed the lawsuit last week in the Court of Common Pleas and is asking for monetary damages. He is representing himself and has no attorney.
Also named in the suit are Butler County, Butler City Police Chief Ron Brown, Sergeant Ronald Fundark, and Patrolman Douglas Mazzanti. Fundark and Mazzanti no longer work for the City of Butler.
Judge Marilyn Horan has been assigned to this case. The city is reportedly obligated to pay the first $10,000 in legal costs before insurance kicks in to cover additional expenses.
