The city of Butler has reduced their number of canine officers from two to one.
According to Mayor Ben Smith, canine officer Blade was retired a couple months ago due to no longer being fit for service.
Blade is now living as a pet with the officer who formerly served as his handler. Canine officer Gunner is still a member of the Butler City Police force.
There are no current plans to replace Blade with another canine officer. Butler City Police still have two canine cars in case one would break down.
