The city of Butler will raise taxes in 2016 for the second straight year.
Butler City Council voted Thursday for a 2.5-mill increase that brings the total tax rate in the city to 42.5-mills.
2.5 mils-equates to a property tax hike of just under 7 percent. Most property owners will see their taxes increase about $30.
The increase would collect an estimated $160,000 in additional revenue for the city. The money will be used for streetlights.
The total general fund budget is expected to increase by over $300,000 in 2016. Last year, the tax rate increased by 1.25-mils.
