A Butler City firefighter received a special commendation on Thursday for delivering in the line of duty.
Firefighter James A. Reeder was the senior firefighter responding on July 1 to a medical emergency involving a child birth. Finding the newborn unresponsive, Reeder initiated resuscitation measures prior to the arrival of the ambulance. Because of those efforts, the baby girl was able to begin breathing.
“Although you may consider your actions at this scene just part of the job, they are truly worthy of recognition,” Butler City Fire Chief Chris Switala said during a Butler City Council meeting. “You acted in accordance with your training to save a life.”
The commendation letter was signed by Switala and Director of Public Safety Councilman Corey Roche.
