For the first time in four years, Butler City Council will not raise taxes in order to achieve a balanced budget.
A unanimous vote Thursday night to give final approval to the 2018 budget included a property tax decrease of 1 mill.
This is a result of a reduction in the city’s street lighting tax. A conversion to LED lights has led to lower electric bills.
The decrease is only a small relief for taxpayers. The average city homeowner will pay about $8 less.
