A spur-of-the-moment and, at times, contentious meeting was held Monday morning by members of Butler City Council.
Several topics were discussed.
Council unanimously approved two contracts with two different kiosk management systems for the downtown parking garage that is currently under construction. The systems will enable the money that a motorist will pay to park to get transferred back to the city. The city will be responsible for paying a set amount to the companies per transaction. One company will charge 3 cents for every motorist who pays to park in the garage. The amount the second company will charge has not yet been set.
The garage is expected to be open by Nov. 1.
Council also unanimously approved a contract which will bring a Fall Italian Festival into downtown Butler. The company behind the event is the same company that runs the ‘Pittsburgh Little Italy Days’ in Bloomfield every August. Butler’s festival will be held over the four-day Labor Day weekend in 2017.
Council also discussed a problem with the Butler City Police Department’s servers, which are malfunctioning. Councilwoman Kathy Kline said the city has already spent close to $28,000 on technology for the department so far this year. This issue was tabled.
City officials usually meet during the last week of every month but the mayor called a special meeting this morning.
