Butler City Council has approved a plan to rezone a city neighborhood.
By a vote of 4-1 on Thursday with Councilman Mike Walter dissenting, zoning of all properties within the designated Ritts Historic and Architectural District has been changed to an R-1 zone for single-family homes.
This means homes will no longer be able to be converted into apartments. Homeowners who currently have apartments in their homes can keep them .
Earlier this week, several residents of the neighborhood told council that they did not support the change.
The Ritts Historic District is a 12-block area near North McKean Street.
