Thanks to the efforts of a local company, Butler could be the first place in the state to legally dispense medical marijuana.
“We were the first to get approval through the state for our grow operation. We’ve had plants in the ground five to seven weeks before anybody else so we will be the first ones to bring product to market. The first state sale for the medical marijuana program will take place at Pillow Street in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Cresco Yeltrah co-founder and co-owner Trent Hartley said Tuesday in an interview.
According to Hartley, the company is finishing up some work on security cameras. Then, they will receive a final inspection from the Pennsylvania Department of Health which is expected to occur sometime in the next two weeks. After that, the facility on Pillow Street in the City of Butler is expected to be open for customers.
There was some delay in getting permits approved locally but Hartley says that dealing with the state Department of Health has been a smooth experience.
“The Department of Health has been really, really good with this program. They’ve really taken guidance and they’ve listened to us as an industry. This is new for them also but in all honesty, Cresco Labs has worked in quite a few other states and we’ve been thoroughly impressed with the Department of Health of Pennsylvania. They’ve done a phenomenal job with this program,” he said.
Cresco Yeltrah’s grow facility is located in Brookville, Jefferson County. Another dispensary facility is planned for the Strip District in Pittsburgh.
