Students at a local school raised a large amount of money earlier this week to benefit kids in Ukraine.
Butler Catholic students and staff raised $2,800 during a “Dress Down Day” on Tuesday and those funds were matched by an anonymous BCS family. An additional $575 was raised through online donations and that was also matched by a different anonymous family.
This total of $6,750 has been donated to the Massachusetts-based non-profit Sunflower of Peace to support those affected by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. 100% of these funds will be used to provide essentials like diapers and medical supplies to Ukrainian refugees in Poland and Romania.
In addition to making the donations, students spent time in prayer, learning about Ukraine, and creating a huge Ukrainian flag and sunflower display for the school. The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine and sunflower oil is a major Ukrainian export.
