The Butler Area School Board is planning to sell the former Broad Street Elementary to ARC of Butler County.
At their meeting Monday night, the board voted by a 7-1 margin to approve the motion to sell the building and property for $475,000. Board member Bill Halle voted against the motion and maintained that the process should have more community input. Halle’s lawsuit about the sale of district property is still in effect and that will need to be resolved by a judge before any sale can be completed.
The next step in the process will be the solicitor drafting a sales agreement to submit to the board next week before the sales goes before a judge for approval at a public hearing. ARC will be invited to present to the board at next week’s meeting about their plans.
One additional bid was received for Broad Street from J.M. Beatty Furniture for $380,000. The price offered by ARC comes in between the two appraisals the district had done for the property (one was $578,000 while the other was $335,000).
