The Butler School Board still has several decisions to make about their budget for the 2016-17 school year but it looks like they could be using more of their general fund to avoid taking on further debt.
Director of Business Services Deb Brandstetter presented her latest projections to the board Monday night, which involve a budget with an anticipated $2.8 million shortfall next year.
That budget would be balanced with money from the district’s general fund, which would still have over $7 million in it. The board is still debating the merits of financing capital projects and technology or dipping further into their general fund to pay for those expenses up front.
Although the budget will likely include a 3-mil tax increase, other revenue sources such as increasing student activity fees are also still undecided.
Brandstetter will present a proposed budget to the board next week for voting before final approval is given in June.
