Although their application to run a medical marijuana grow and process facility in Butler County was not chosen, a local company will run a facility in Jefferson County.
Kent Hartley is part owner of Butler-based company Cresco Yeltrah, who has been chosen by the PA Department of Health to receive one of two grower and processor permits in the Northwest Region. The other permit awarded in the Northwest Region was to Washington D.C-based Holistic Industries. They will set up shop in New Castle.
Butler County was grouped into the Southwest Region and because Cresco Yeltrah was already awarded one license, they will no longer be able to petition the state for a grower permit at a site in the city’s Pullman Center, where they already started work.
“The fact that we were selected for a Jefferson County site would eliminate us from the running for phase two on the Butler site,” Hartley said. “We personally would not have an opportunity to open a facility in Butler when the state issues more permits because you’re only allowed to be granted one process and grow license in the state.”
In addition to the licenses to grow and process marijuana, the state will also issue the permits for medical marijuana dispensaries by the end of the month.
