A Valley Lines bus driver has been fired after a Butler Area School District student was left unattended on a school bus.
Butler Superintendent Brian White said the incident happened on Friday at Center Township Elementary School. One student did not exit the bus to go into school and the bus driver left without checking to make sure the bus was empty.
The student was discovered a short time later and was taken back to school by the driver. The driver then told both the district and the bus contractor, Valley Lines, about the incident.
School bus safety procedures dictate the driver must check the entire bus for any students or items left behind before leaving a school or drop-off location.
“We’re happy the student is safe and uninjured but very concerned that the student was left alone,” White said.
