The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago White Sox 7-0 last night at PNC Park. Adam Frazier led the game off with a solo home run, and the Bucs went on to score four runs in the inning. They added two more runs in the second inning and knocked White Sox starting pitcher Reynoldo Lopez from the game. Trevor Williams started for the Pirates, and did not allow a run over seven innings. He did walk a batter and struck out six.
Gregory Polanco and Josh Bell had two hits each, Bell drove in three runs. The Bucs lost Starling Marte and Francisco Cervelli to injuries during the game. Marte appeared to strain a muscle in his side. Cervelli was hit by a pitch in the forearm. Both have been among the Pirates best hitters to start the season, with both batting over .300.
The Bucs and White Sox completed their two game series with a 3-2 Pirate victory Wednesday afternoon. Elias Diaz scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning when Josh Bell singled. Edgar Santana picked up his first win of the year in relief and Felipe Vazquez nailed down his 8th save.
Milwaukee lost to Arizona 2-1 last night, allowing the Pirates to tie for first place in the NL Central. The Cubs and Cardinals are a game back.
